Learn how a garment is made from pattern drafting, cutting and sewing. With the basic knowledge in drafting and sewing, you can progress to making patterns and sewing. This course covers basic threading of the industrial sewing machine and sewing techniques.

Objectives

Identify the pattern pieces, sewing operations and sequences required to construct the garment
Interpret draft, cut and sew a basic tee and pull-on shorts based on a given size specs using basic pattern block with manipulation methods
Understand how basic garment construction relates to pattern development, grading, marker development and mass production
Use the various stitch types such as lock stitch, overlock stitch and cover stitch

Academic Requirements

Local Students
- GCE ‘O’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- WSQ Advanced Certificate OR
- WSQ ES WPLN Level 5 and above
International Students
- High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘O’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basic AND/OR
- Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test
English Language Proficiency
- Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent OR
- IELTS score 4.5 or TOEFL score 450

Non-Academic Requirements

Minimum Age: 18 years old and above

Development process from paper patterns to finished garments
Techniques in using sewing machine for various operations
Types of interfacing
Industry terminology interpretations
Build in fabric retraction and shrinkage into stock production pattern

Assessment Methods

Successful completion of all modules within the course

Graduation Criteria

75% attendance rate of total training hours per module
Assessed and be competent for every module
Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required.

Awards

Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
