This course will allow you to advance your knowledge on pattern drafting and garment construction. Through hands-on experiences, learn how to draft skirts and pants, and the sewing techniques involved in their construction. Classes mix hands-on activities, demonstrations and lectures to convey learning concepts in a multifaceted approach.

Objectives

Draft basic pattern blocks with given specifications or measurements taken from size specs
Develop a variety of patterns for skirts and pants using block manipulation method
Label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches
Sew a lined skirt against given specifications or measurements
Sew a bottom with curve waistline finishing, pocket and cuff against given specifications or measurements
Evaluate sewn product against given specifications or measurements

Academic Requirements

Local Students
- GCE ‘O’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- WSQ Advanced Certificate OR
- WSQ ES WPLN Level 5 and above
International Students
- High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘O’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basic AND/OR
- Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test
English Language Proficiency
- Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent OR
- IELTS score 4.5 or TOEFL score 450

Non-Academic Requirements

Minimum Age: 18 years old and above

Conversion from imperial measurements to metric measurements and vice versa
Human shapes and variations with focus on waist and below
Skirt variations
Pants variations
Shorts variations
Pockets variations
Basic pattern block for skirt and pants
Seams and facings
Interfacings, applicable hemming finishes and zipper attachments
Fabric retraction and shrinkage into stock production pattern

Successful completion of all modules within the course

Graduation Criteria

75% attendance rate of total training hours per module
Assessed and be competent for every module
Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required.

Awards

Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
