Academic Requirements

• 2 GCE ‘A’ levels Pass or Foundation Certificate for Higher Education (FCHE) or Certificate in Foundation Skills (CIFS) or other equivalent qualification deemed acceptable by Informatics Academy.
• Engish Language Proficiency: GCE ‘O’ Level – C6, IELTS – Min score of 5.5 OR, TOEFL (PBT) – Min score of 513 OR, TOEFL (iBT) – Min score of 65 OR, Informatics Certificate in Proficiency in English
• Mature candidates (21 years old and above) with the below credentials may be considered for mature entry on a case-by-case basis:
  • Completed Secondary Education
  • Fulfilled English language proficiency requirement

Modules Covered

• Computer And Information Processing
  • This module covers the characteristics of computer hardware and explains their functions. Students will learn to appreciate the social and economic implications of the use of various range of computer systems, identify the different types of computer networks and data communication standards. Various data structures, file organisation and limitations of the physical media which data is stored will be introduced. Upon completion of the module, students will also be able to explain the types of software and computer languages used in current computer systems, specify the functions of an operating system and the facilities offered to a programmer, describe the features of common data processing systems, as well as the operations, development and control activities within a typical data processing department.
• Essential Of Networking And Network Security
  • This module will equip students with knowledge on the basic network administration, network security, authentication, network attacks, firewall, DMZ and VPN. Students will also learn to understand the need for networking and recognise the importance of security in networking environment.
• Introduction To Java
  • This module introduces simple object-oriented techniques using Java. The module covers Java applications using the JDK compiler and Applets to provide students with a more detailed understanding of the programming process.
• Mathematics For Computing
  • This module covers the mathematics needed to underpin the computing modules.
• Object Oriented Analysis And Design
  • The module provides a clear, practical framework for development through the application of all the major techniques from UML 2.0. It follows an iterative and incremental approach based on the industry standard Unified Process. It places systems analysis and design in the context of the whole systems lifecycle, and includes generic analysis and design issues.
• Project : C Programming
  • The aim of this module is to develop the students’ programming skills in the C programming language. Students will learn about the fundamental data types, functions and constructs used in C programming before embarking on the writing of structured programmes that are of commercial value. Upon grasping the fundamentals, students will then progress to write programmes to solve problems and support business operations.
• Project : Web Pub And Html
  • This module is a project-based module that allows students full creativity in creating a website using HTML, Javascript and Java Applets. Students will learn to create built-in forms, handle web events and Javascript objects and applets.
• Database Design And Management
  • First part of the module covers database modelling together with database design concepts applying ER method. Second part introduces SQL statements and functions. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of database design using SQL.

Graduation Criteria

Upon successful completion of all modules, students will be eligible for the International Diploma in Information Technology and Communication awarded by Informatics Academy.

Upon successful completion of the International Diploma in Information Technology and Communication awarded by Informatics Academy, the student is eligible to apply for an Informatics Academy Advanced Diploma programme.
